Research Bootcamp

An intensive sprint toward real scientific output.

Research Bootcamp is the flagship collaborative format of CISBM: a concentrated period in which researchers gather to develop scientific work rapidly and rigorously, together.

What It Is

Collaboration compressed into a sprint.

Research Bootcamp is an intensive scientific collaboration event where members of CISBM gather to rapidly develop research proposals, manuscripts, computational analyses, experimental concepts, and other collaborative research activities.

Participants form working groups around concrete scientific questions of their own choosing and push them forward with unusual focus and speed. The aim is a scientifically valuable output (a manuscript draft, an analysis pipeline, or a proposal) suitable for publication or future funding.

How It Works

Format, intensity, and outputs.

Each Research Bootcamp is organized around a defined, condensed period of shared working time. Participants commit to focused, sustained collaboration for the whole of that window. Working groups are formed around specific research questions proposed by members in advance, and progress is expected to be visible from day to day.

The intensity is deliberate: by compressing collaborative work into a defined window, Research Bootcamp aims to produce tangible scientific artifacts (a manuscript draft, a computational analysis, an experimental design, or a funding proposal) ready to carry forward. Outputs are developed toward a standard suitable for submission to a journal, conference, or funding body, and what each group achieves rests on the science it produces.

Who Participates

Advisory scientists and emerging researchers, together.

Research Bootcamp draws on both parts of the CISBM community: Advisory & Distinguished Members, whose experience helps set scientific direction and evaluate feasibility, and Emerging Researchers, who bring the energy, technical range, and fresh perspective that intensive work demands. Working groups are typically mixed across both, reflecting a view that scientific merit determines who leads a given piece of work.

Take Part

Dates for the next Research Bootcamp will be announced via News.

The next Research Bootcamp will be announced on the News page as soon as it is scheduled. If you would like to take part, the first step is becoming a CISBM member.
